The province of Palawan is an UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the few regions in the Philippines with high biological diversity. It is home to the critically endangered Palawan pangolin and other rare wildlife. The PCF funded the Environmental Legal Assistance Center to establish a community-based conservation effort in northern Palawan in order to strengthen existing enforcement efforts to address wildlife and related crimes. This work is essential as wildlife poaching and illegal logging are key threats to this forest ecosystem.
