Duration | 3 months |
This project supports Conserv Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Government to formally and officially destroy approximately 2 tonnes of seized pangolin scales. These scales were returned to the DRC by the Republic of the Congo following the successful prosecution of the wildlife traffickers who were arrested in possession of the scales in 2018. With PCF support, Conserv Congo and the DRC Government (Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature – ICCN) will hold an event to destroy these scales. This will permanently remove the risk that these scales will re-enter illegal circulation and supply the global demand, and will help the DRC communicate the message that they have no tolerance for pangolin trafficking or trade in scales.
