andBeyond welcomed the birth of the first ground pangolin, also known as Temminck’s pangolin, this month at the anBeyond Phinda Private Game Reserve in South Africa. This is the first pangolin pup born here in decades, since the ground pangolin went extinct here long ago.

The birth of this pup is the first milestone in a coordinated conservation project between andBeyond, the African Pangolin Working Group, the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital, and the Human Society International Africa to reintroduce ground pangolins to the Reserve. They hope to continue reintroducing rescued pangolins so that more wild births like this can occur and the population can make a recovery.
