Conserv Congo is a local non-governmental, nonprofit organization operating in the Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) Sector in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with support from the Congolese Institute of Conservation and Nature (ICCN). Congo is home to all four African pangolin species, making it a critical landscape to ensure long term protection of these vulnerable animals. Securing Congo’s pangolin may also have a positive impact in large-scale pangolin poaching for scales that is escalating and advancing through Southern Africa. Conserv Congo plays a critical role in the protection of pangolins through investigations, arrests, and recovery from illegal trafficking. With funding from the Pangolin Crisis Fund, this project will also support their work with local community awareness of the consequences of pangolin poaching in DRC.
