Pangolin rescue, release and rehabilitation in Zambia

Wildlife criminal networks often try to use Zambia as a transit route through which to transport illicit products to their destinations in Asia. Wildlife Crime Prevention will outline a post-release monitoring trial for the Temminck’s ground pangolin with Pangolin Crisis Fund support. It will provide a better understanding of the condition and distribution of released pangolins rescued from the illegal trade in Zambia. 

Pangolins are often rescued alive from the illegal wildlife trade because live pangolins can reach a higher price in some markets. However, their time in captivity with traffickers often leaves them weak through malnourishment and abuse. Wildlife Crime Prevention in Zambia is conducting work to increase the survival chances of rescued pangolins who can be released back into the wild through rehabilitation and post release monitoring.
